While there are many breeders who love the Akita and have successful breeding programs, there seem to be many other people who call themselves breeders but really do not know what they are doing. Anyone can put a male and female together to make puppies. Producing Akitas with sound bodies and stable temperaments is quite another matter. We feel that the only way to clearly demonstrate one's knowledge is through proven successes.

All too often, we hear of a breeder who produces many litters of Akitas but has never won a single Championship point in the Breed ring. How can these people really be qualified to evaluate "Show" and "Pet" quality Akitas if they don't have any showing experience?

We also hear lots of breeders talk about how they breed for good temperament but they have never trained their dogs for reliable behavior at home or in the Obedience ring. Quite often, these are the breeders who cannot control their own dogs when you meet them and so they make up excuses for the dog's bad behavior.
We have taken a different approach to breeding Akitas. We did not produce our first Akita litter until after we had spent many years studying, training, and showing our dogs. We are always striving to expand our knowledge and improve our breeding program. We do not breed every year (or even more often) as many others do. There are already too many Akita puppies for the number of good homes. We only do a breeding after lots of careful planning and only if we feel that the resulting puppies are likely to be exceptional.

Our Dogs are family members first, and show dogs second. This means that they must be trainable and willing to learn to be part of the household. They do not spend their lives in kennel cages and they are not treated like livestock to be used mainly for breeding purposes.

We are extremely selective about the homes to which our puppies go. We care a lot about the quality of the environment and their daily lives. If you get a puppy from us, you are joining the family, not just buying a dog. Each home must be a loving, nurturing environment where the Akita will be a part of the family and not just a "guard" dog or backyard prisoner.

Our expertise in Akita training is one of the biggest differences between us and many other breeders. We truly know what good and bad Akita temperament is all about. Martin is considered to be an expert in training Akitas and evaluating Akita puppies. Over the past 13 years he has spent thousands of hours training Akitas and he is frequently asked for advice on Akita training. During the last several years, Martin has served as President of the California Handler's Advanced Obedience School, member of the Board of Directors of the Southwest Obedience Club and President of the Southern California Dog Obedience Council.

In addition, Martin trained and showed:
